Remembering Chief Deputy Mathew Baker
Sheriff Maurice R. Ouellette and the members of the York
County Sheriff's Office sadly announce the passing of Chief Deputy Mathew Baker. Chief Deputy Baker passed away
with his family at his side on Monday, November 19, 2012 after a battle with cancer.
Mathew Baker began is law enforcement career in July of 1978 as a
Reserve Officer for the Town of Kennebunk. On June 4, 1979 he was
promoted to the position of Patrolman with theKennebunk Police
Department. He rose
through the ranks of the Kennebunk Police Department and was ultimately
appointed Chief of Police on December 29, 2000. Chief Baker served as
the top leader of the Kennebunk Police Department until he was appointed
Chief Deputy with the York County Sheriff's Office by Sheriff Ouellette
on January 1, 2007.
Chief Deputy Baker served as the number two in command until his passing. Chief Deputy Baker was the
administrator for Police Services, Corrections and Civil Process.
